With summer fast approaching, the pool is likely going to be the most popular amenity. While you want everyone to have a great time this summer, it’s important to remember the rules and regulations that are associated with the pool to minimize liability and ensure safety. Before summer begins and the pool becomes the ideal destination for your residents, consider the following advice and equip your association with an iron-clad Ventura HOA Insurance program.
Lifeguard or no lifeguard?
This is a personal choice and it’s entirely up to the association. Whether you choose to open your pools year-round or employ lifeguards in the summer is a decision your HOA can make collectively. If you choose to hire a pool monitor or lifeguard, ensure they are well-qualified and capable of providing protection to your residents at the pool.
Understand and meet regulations.
Obtaining the right insurance is a top priority for any HOA. This includes comprehensive coverage to protect the board members and their decisions in addition to pool coverage to mitigate liability in the event of a tragedy. Further, comply with health and safety regulations when it comes to pool design and maintenance, and consider the implications the ADA has on your pool, as well. For example, you might need to install ramps or a lift chair for people with disabilities to enter and exit the pool.
Post the rules.
As fun as the pool is, there needs to be safety precautions posted in public view. HOA Leader suggests that you include the following:
- No running on the pool deck.
- No swimming during rain or thunderstorms.
- No glass bottles in pool area.
- No horse play.
- No electrical equipment on pool deck.
