While the four-day PGA Tour golf tournament sponsored by Farmers Insurance in Torrey Pines brings top-notch players to the links and the many after-parties raise millions of dollars for local charities to help first responders in preparation and recovery, it’s a different story a few hours north of San Diego, CA.
Ironically, at the same time the Los Angeles area of California is bracing for more heavy rains that will also bring moderate winds between 15 and 30 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph. Rain will continue throughout Southern California on Friday and perhaps into Saturday mid-afternoon, with as much as a foot of snow possible in the mountain areas. The storm will blow through Southern California into Saturday, bringing rainfall that may also cause debris flows in areas that burned in the recent wildfires.
Also just in: mandatory evacuation orders in Santa Barbara County were lifted Friday morning as a cold winter storm moved through without causing any major damage to areas devastated by January’s deadly mudslides. However, sandbags were distributed to Sylmar, CA residents just ahead of an upcoming storm in an effort to prepare for any flash floods.
A winter storm warning is in effect for the Los Angeles County and Ventura County mountains (with the exception of the Santa Monica range) until 4 p.m.Saturday, while a flash flood watch was in effect in parts of Santa Barbara and Ventura counties until 9 a.m. Friday morning, and until 3 p.m. in the San Fernando Valley and Los Angeles County foothills.
